Getting close
Whilst the challenge to get everything ready seems quite daunting, the build is progressing at a rapid rate.
The colour is looking great and the signwriter was making a start whilst we were there – it now has a really manly name. Only kidding! We thought it would be difficult to find a name that we could agree, but Shensi stood out as an obvious choice – it had been the name of our home of the past 30 years, and it just felt right to continue to use it for our future home. The name Shensi is believed to be the English derivative of a northern China state, Shaanxi, where apparently the original owner of our home had been working in China as some kind of missionary and on his return to the UK he decided to name the house after that province. I think it really suits it and is a bit better than “Bob”, sorry Robert.
We now have a very shiny rear end. The paint job just looks soooo good, it seems a shame to let me near it because it will end up scratched, battered and bruised.
The panel on the rear deck was just to allow the wheelhouse to be covered whilst painting was in progress although with a few bits of 4 x 2 it could make quite a nice sun canopy.
The scaffolding is still in place because it makes some of the work easierm and I’m sure the signwriter was very appreciative. The team to lay the deck are also due soon, so that will make it so much easier from them.
The rear cabin is all lit up and A/C installed. Waiting on rear internal shutters and mirrored doors on the aft cupboards.
This is a different perspective of the rear cabin, looking through the aft cabin window.
There are some heretics around that question why you need a TV in the bedroom. Burn them all I say!
Now, the hydraulic roof is in place and operational, and the windows are off having their glass fitted. I hope it is the same type that Safe Style sell because the salesman showed me how his meter always registered a green light, which he said was a good thing, although I’m not sure why it did!
On top of the wheelhouse roof are 4 x 250 watt solar panels. I did express my concerns that the connections were quite vulnerable to a bridge strike but it was pointed out that it would probably be the least of my problems as it would take out the hatch first.
Insurance is looking like a great idea about now.
The cushions and stoppers have all arrived. They look really good in the dinette/guest area and seem very comfortable. A good start.
An obligatory shot of the engine room. (Bob seems quite comfortable. Maybe he could be a fixture to keep an eye on the operational side. I could set up a speaker tube from the wheelhouse and shout messages like “Full Ahead”.)
