Settling in
Bit of a long weekend, but luckily it was a bank holiday weekend so there was a little more time to get settled.
Nicki and I have been planning this for such a long time, downscaling and getting rid of excess kit and kaboodle from our our home of 30 years, encouraging the kids to move out and eventually selling up our home, moving into rented accommodation for six months, moving in with Amy and Simran for a further six months – all the while reducing our belongings – yet despite all of this we still seem to have far too much. We tried to make sure that there was enough storage and it looks like we did OK but I still think we could have done better. Anyway, so far so good. There is still a lot of capacity available but the wheelhouse currently has a few boxes to unpack.
There have been a few minor issues. The thrusters are not fully calibrated yet so only work on half thrust – although probably not too much of a problem for now, with a bit of a breeze blowing us sideways we struggled just to manoeuvre round the marina. It also looks like the power steering needs bleeding as it gets tight when it warms up.
We could not get the shore power working for a couple days but it was just a breaker that had gone, and all is working now.
And, of course, it takes a while to get used to the noises in the boat – the sound of a crack and lapping water woke me up in the early hours of the morning. Luckily it turned out to be the boiler still running – but my imagination had gone into overdrive and I truly believed that we had sprung a leak and that the bilge pumps had kicked in. Happily that was not the case but my investigations did show a small leak in a radiator pipe, so it had definitely been worth checking.
One of the things that I like about this build is that everything is really accessible.
We still have a bit of a battle going on with wi-fi reception but I think we are on track to sorting it out.
