Top Up
Colin and Katie had told us that the fuel barge would be passing at Hurley Lock the following day and that they would be filling up, so I thought we would take the opportunity of having a top up as well. Colin and Katie had arranged to meet Chris (the bargee) at Hurley Lock in the morning and we were to going to get there shortly afterward. As it turned out though, we were just getting up and I looked out of the window to see our neighbours already heading out of the marina to meet up with Chris on the lock mooring – apparently he had made better progress the previous day and had moored up overnight just a couple of miles downstream, so had arrived earlier than we expected. So, time for a quick coffee and then we set off to join them.
It was quite a cold morning, with lots of ice around on the deck so we were quite cautious, not to mention that the river was also running quite fast with a red warning at the lock and I could feel the pull of the river towards the weir. Still, we made it and filled up our tanks ready for our next set of adventures.
