River Vecht to Weesp
We crossed onto the river Vecht just north of Utrecht and followed the river a short distance on the river to Oud-Zuilen. The mooring was a bit rough and ready but good enough for the night. The castle was not open so we were unable to visit it but did have a good walk round.
The next day we moved on to Maarssen with a long pleasant mooring and a lovely park area where we could walk the dogs.
Moved on to Loenen aan de Vecht next day, mooring up just outside the main town between two lifting bridges. The day was cooler but still dry and we wandered into the town for lunch and a drink before deciding to stay on the boat for dinner that evening and managing to eat out on the stern deck as it was so pleasant.
Overnight the weather deteriorated, winds really increased and the rain poured down – Andy was up three times in the night to tie down deck furniture etc so it was a very unsettled night, but we did wake up to a much brighter morning and were able to continue on the Vecht onto Weesp. Traffic was light and the scenery was lovely, no issues after last night’s storm and we found a good spot along the river just outside of Weesp, with the intention of staying for three nights. Had a good night out with Rachel and Janos at a local restaurant – their last night with us before returning to home (via the UK and Bluewater).
As it turned out, we decided to stay for one more night after they had left, just to get ready for Lesley and Mike coming to stay in a few days time, after which we travelled up to Zaandam (our meeting point with them). The traffic was much lighter than we had anticipated and the weather was quite warm, so a good journey into Dukra Haven in Zaandam.
