Almere Haven, Gooimeer
(Almere Haven is the oldest borough of Almere on the Gooimeer. It has a small harbour, as well as a marina and is surrounded by large forests.)
Leaving De Schelp today, we travelled across the river into the Gooimeer, arriving at Almere Haven after just an hour’s journey. The harbour was a nice location, although we were a little concerned when the depth gauge gave up on us, which normally means we’re fairly close to the bottom, but fortunately it transpired that the thick weeds were creating a false impression of depth – the harbour master (George) assured us there was at least 2 meters clearance to the bottom.
The heat was pretty oppressive so we did very little during the afternoon, but a little later we walked into the town for a bit of shopping – the town was fairly bland but had a few supermarkets in between the standard shops (Blokker, Etos and Hema etc); the harbour front was quite attractive with the usual mix of cafes/restaurants/ice cream shops. Lovely off lead dog walking along the river front, although Milly was struggling in the heat.
Because it was so hot during the day we hunkered down with the A/C blasting away. Overnight was also uncomfortably hot, so we ran the air-conditioning for a while to cool the bedroom down before going to bed. It was really too hot though and there was very little air flow so we ran the A/C again during the night. The dogs seemed fine in the saloon but even they had a fan running most of the time.
