Eiland De Schelp, Gooimeer
Left Weesp about 10 after filling up with water, passing through the town down the Vecht via Muider, exiting into Markermeer and hanging a right toward Gooimeer. A short while later we came to the island of De Schelp which seemed like a nice spot to moor up for a night or two in a reasonably sheltered position. On arrival there were just two or three other cruisers and we were happy that it would be a peaceful location with few people around. Wrong! Turned out to be a weekend where many other people also thought it would be a good spot, and fairly soon the place was filled up with boats, people and various dogs – oh, and about six small boats all rafted together further along belonging to several scouting groups who were there for a night’s camping. Weather definitely hotting up, and some people were jumping in the water to cool down – but not us, we are British after all!
We ended up staying for three nights – it was nice to be sort of ‘off grid’ especially at just E10/night – but felt it was time to move on, and we left to visit Huizen.
