De Dode Hond, Eemmeer

( The Eemmeer is a lake situated in the middle of the Netherlands between the provinces of Flevoland, Utrecht, and North Holland. It measures 13.4 square kilometres and contains one small island, De Dode Hond). Today was a slow start – dog walk along coast, water fill, bit of shopping – before moving off from Almere Haven this morning towards Amersfoort, but got sidetracked onto the island of De Dode Hond on the way which seemed worth a stop. And it was …. we moored alongside a long concrete bank for a very short while before moving onto another location nearby which proved to be almost ideal. No facilities, but quiet, isolated and great for power washing the boat! Only drawback was there was a lot of weed in the water which temporarily blocked the thrusters, but I cleared them out and we were ready to move off again. Weather is incredibly hot, almost too hot, but with the air con on later in the afternoon it was bearable. Milly seems to be struggling in the heat, more so than Casper really, but although they weren’t keen, we found that hosing them down every so often helped them to keep them cool. We decided to stay here for the night and to move on in the morning – who knows, maybe we’ll get to Amersfoort tomorrow?
