Zundert Corso flower parade
Our original idea for the visit to this annual flower show was to move the boat to Breda and from there to just catch a bus into Zundert, but for various reasons we were still in Den Bosch when the parade was to take place, so our plans changed slightly – we now had to add a train journey, followed by a bus trip. It was not much of an issue though because everything was very well organised – the only regret was that we had to leave the dogs behind and therefore could not spend as much time as we wanted/needed to explore all the other supporting events which went on into the evening.
On arrival we passed through an area showing models of various sculptures – all very good – which we later realised were models on which the actual floats were based. The work that must have gone into all of the floats was truly stunning – each of the floats had sounds and motions to complete this fantastic display, yet surprisingly none of them were motorised! Most were propelled purely by people beneath each float, some pushing and walking, some actually crawling on their knees and pushing! Luckily, the day wasn’t too hot (for us, just the right temperature) so it was probably a lot easier for them than had the sun been fully out all day.
Anyway, the whole thing proved to be a stunning event and the photos that follow do not really do it justice.
As well as the parade, there were lots of bands (brass, silver, etc.) playing in between each float and some of them were awesome, playing instruments as they cycled along or including little dance routines or just being generally entertaining. All in all, it was a fabulous day and we were exhausted by the time we did get back (to two very happy, hungry dogs).
