Heading to Heel (14/15 September)
Got off just after 9 today on a nice warm, clear day, heading out of t’Bassin through sluice 20 onto the Maas, a wide old river and fortunately with no traffic nearby to worry about as we had to cross over to the other side.
The waterways were fairly busy, but I suppose being a Monday that was to be expected, and along the way we ‘bumped into’ Ebenezer heading into Maastricht.
On entering the pollards at Heel, despite it seeming very peaceful and quiet, we had to cruise around a little before we found anywhere to moor up as there were a lot of other boats with the same idea as us. Still, we managed to squeeze in front of a cruiser alongside a pontoon (although we did have to hang off the bow as there wasn’t enough space remaining on the pontoon, and even then we had to keep the bow out from the bank as the front end was quite shallow and we didn’t want to ground).
The evening was beautiful and stayed warm till quite late so we are our dinner on the stern before heading inside for the rest of the evening.
Up very early (for us) in the morning (6.30), so we were ready to leave before 7.30. Almost unheard of!
