February 2021
With the ice on the water almost gone and temperatures increasing at a rate of knots I feel under pressure to clean the outside. Hopefully my apathy will help me suppress this feeling for a few more weeks.
The sounds of lapping water due to the winds and how much it sounded like someone with a club hammer pounding on the hull was a new experience this year. Also a heads up to deal with it more effectively next time.
Then to add to that, this morning there were significant water noises that sounded like someone letting off air cylinders under the boat. Almost like the exhaust from a team of divers. In the past softer sounds were put down to gases being released from the river bed. As it also happened later in the day, I went to explore and indeed there were streams of bubbles coming up at the side of the boat. As I moved to the other side, out popped a Cormorant with a fish in mouth. So I’m guessing they are the ones disturbing the river bed as they forage, hence the noise.
Couple of DIY jobs. A new bookcase beautifully matched to the existing trim. Also a new access step to hook onto the boat for the low moorings.
When we had SHENSI built we had the two fuel tanks connected with a pump to move fuel between them. Coming from the UK where the use of red diesel is permissible it became an issue in Europe where it is not. Because of this I removed the system but now that we are only using white diesel, I have reinstated the system. It was easier to remove than it was to replace but it’s all done now.
