May 2021 – Part 2
We stayed in Dokkum for eight days. There were lovely walks around this historic town – it used to be open to the sea with all the accompanying trade so it has all the characteristics of a fortified sea port.
After leaving Dokkum we stopped at a Marrekite mooring near a town called Ee. This is an historic town which is one of four that have protected status.
From We we made our way to Kollum and stayed for three days. It wasn’t a particularly interesting place but we had fun just wandering around.
The weather was pretty bad and we moored in the shelter of some trees. Unfortunately the boat was a real mess with all the debris from the trees after just one day, so by the end of the three days she was due a real clean.
Leaving Kollum we headed into Leukemeer and picked up a nice mooring on a small island. We were lucky to get the perfect spot for us, arriving just as another boat was vacating a space. Casper had a great time digging for moles, and by the time we left he had left behind a trail of small holes in his wake.
On the whole the weather was nigh on perfect – warm and dry with no wind and just right for a few days of boat cleaning and painting, so we were happily occupied for a fair bit of the time.
