Statistics 2024
This year was a little different for us, as we had to plan for visitors, a couple of trips back to the UK, and the biggy – a ‘cruise’ down the Rhine river in Germany.
We returned to Shensi on 26th March, and stayed there until we were able to leave our winter haven at Mailly la Ville on 14th April, but only out onto the Nivernais Canal for a few days whilst I returned the car to Groningen (for our 2024 winter season) and until the canal was deemed passable due to heavy rains, excess water flow and some lock problems further down the canal. Eventually we were cleared to leave on 20th April.
From that point on, we spent around 25 weeks onboard, travelling for 282 engine hours.
Mooring costs for this year were higher than normal at Euros 2,705.58, but this was mostly due to a couple of long stays in marinas – one at Luxembourg for over three weeks (Luxembourg seems to be generally quite expensive anyway so we had anticipated this), and at the port in Nancy.
Nicki returned to the UK in July for a wedding and for Isabella’s first birthday, and then again in September/October for a wedding anniversary party and for Isabella’s christening. Amy joined us on Shensi for a week in July (returning with Nicki from Heathrow) during which time we stayed mainly in France and Luxembourg, followed at the beginning of September by Janos and Rachel, who came up to Strasbourg to stay for a week or so and gave us some much needed assistance on our adventure down the Rhine river until we reached Koln, at which point they needed to depart for Czarvargo once more. A day later Alec made his way over to Germany, making a very late arrival due to flight delays, and spent a week cruising with us.
Overall, we spent Euros 2,079.65 on fuel, fortunately in Luxembourg where fuel prices were much cheaper than elsewhere.
